Wednesday Wishlist

Lilliana Stud Embellished Chiffon Style Dress In Mocha, £28.99, Missguided

This gorgeous dress is so lovely! I love how the shape and style is plain but the embellishments make it more 'wow'! I like how its the type of dress you can wear in so many different ways ; by itself and some wedges in the summer, with thick tights in winter, you can drape yourself in lots of accessories with it for a more classy look..I'd wear it with a soft brown eyeshadow, nude lips and peach cheeks, or with red lipstick as you'd have to be careful to make sure the colour doesn't drown you out.

The dress is also available in a few other colours such as hot pink (which I'm also considering) but I think purchasing the dress in this mocha colour is ideal as I will get more use out of it!

Crazy Peony Floral Indian Clip Frame Purse, £9.00, Accessorize

I recently put together an article on bags for a website I've began writing for and featured this very cute chic purse! It's so cute! The purse I have at the moment is a large one that stores all my cards and money etc but I'd really like a mini purse like this just for my coins. The bow detail with the little heart is my favourite part of the purse but I'd be worried about it falling off!

Mariota Belted Chino Trousers in Grey, £18.99, Missguided

Over the easter half term I'll be doing work experience with More! magazine for two weeks, so I've been keeping an eye out for some items that are both smart and fashionable at the same time. These panelled trousers are both. I love the grey/slightly brown shade and would wear these with a white blouse and just pumps - though heels would look better as you can see in this photo! These are a bit different from normal work trousers as they are taken up at the bottom and much more fitted which is what gives them the fashionable edge and off course the fact that you wear heels with them. The belt will also break up any outfit a bit.

Nail Rock Pink Leopard Print Nail Wraps, £6.50, Topshop

If you haven't already noticed, girls are starting to become very experimental with their nails and nail art. I, personally, don't have the patience to do art on my nails myself (no matter how easy it looks, I would no doubt give up after two tries, go off in a huff and never attempt to do it again - like everything else!) so I've been eyeing up nail wraps! The design above is very out there and I would probably restrict it for a special occasion or a big night out, but I think it's quite quirky and I adore quirky things. However, I have seen similar nail wrap designs in the pound store so I might have a gander in there first before I shell out £6.50 on something I'm not sure I'd have the guts to wear!
Soap and Glory Hocus Focus Lotion 30ml, £12.26, Boots

I'm not really into spending loads of money on lotions and potions for my skin as I'm always wary about whether or not they'll work. But I love Soap and Glory - its cute, retro and smells nice, so I'm considering this. I always have really dull skin and I have never, ever had enough sleep. Add this to the fact that I'm fairly pale then you can imagine why I'd maybe need some sort of lotion to make a difference to my skin, even to just make it healthy! This product is described as 'A blast of balance for tired skin. An instant visual flaw-softening lotion  with long-wearing LIGHTSCRAMBLE'. It sounds like it does the job?!

Discount Codes & T In The Park

If you have a look along the right side of the blog, you'll see that I've updated the latest discount codes for all you're favourite high street shops! I said I'd update these weekly but a lot of codes only last for a day so in those cases I'll try and update daily too!

On another note, how great is the T In The Park lineup? I'll admit it, I'm a festival virgin! But with so many great artists playing and the fact that I'm graduating this year, I'm considering it! Now where can I find the money from?! Is anyone else going? For those of you that don't know, some my personal favourite artists playing this year include Blink 182, Pulp, Foo Fighters, My Chemical Romance, Deadmau5, Pendulum, Jimmy Eat World, All Time Low, Ke$ha and many more...view the full line up here!

The real ins and outs of planning a wedding ; And so, it starts!

By our guest blogger Laura Lowe

And so, it starts!

So it has been two weeks, 3 wedding fayres and numerous expensive bridal magazines since we last met. Doesn’t time fly when you’re wedding planning?!

After announcing our engagement, the first thing I dragged myself out to do, is buy one of those planning books / bibles / novels essential for the perfect day. After much deliberation, a mini domestic and a half hour consultation with the poor employee unlucky enough to ask us whether we needed any help, we bought “The Wedding Planner” by You&Your Wedding (ISBN 978-0-572-03345-3). I felt this was a positive start: this is not just a wedding planner it is the wedding planner! So, armed with my new tool to success and the perfectly planned wedding, I headed straight to Starbucks, a caramel latte, and double choc chip muffin.

Re-fuelled and raring to plan, we opened the bible to:

Chapter 1: First Things First. Good so far!
Answer these questions and your perfect wedding is just around the corner. Even better, off we go!

Question 1: what is your dream? Ok, forget the damn book, we’re hiring a real wedding planner!

After stropping for a while and blaming all and sundry for my lack of wedding know-how, I manned up, flicked through the rest of the book, and gleaned that the first thing to do is to make a list: a list of important things, not-so important things, and not-important-at-all things. Easy peasy. Another caramel latte, double choc chip muffin (I’m going to get so fat!) and mini domestic later, my creation, with help from my bible, was complete.

The list now scares me.

Why does nobody tell you that there is so much choice?! Buffet, or 3 course meal. Hotel or a village hall. Registrar, or a church. Welcome drinks, or cocktail hour.

So, armed with the list which tells me the first thing to do is choose the bridal party and groomsmen, Rob and I set out to do the impossible: signal out our best friends from our not so best friends. How on earth do we do this?!

The real ins and outs of planning a wedding by the future Mrs Burke

Hair Removal: The Bain of my Life!

* CONTAINS SOME GRUESOME IMAGES *

Being naturally fair skinned and having dark hair comes with many disadvantages: I am more prone to sunburn, and also, facial redness, broken capillaries and other flaws tend to show more on my lighter skin. But by far, the biggest annoyance to me is that dark body hair shows up much more against pale skin.

Therefore, I can either tan myself up with my good old fake-tan (which I have to do most of the time) or, do all I can to remove the hair!! I would absolutely love to have laser hair removal in the future but right now, it is not in my price range. I think for me, laser hair removal would be the ultimate goal and only then would I be happy! But until then, I am testing every other affordable method. (of which none are permanent unlike the laser treatments!) I have tried every single alternative there is on the market: bleaching, waxing, threading, shaving, plucking....you name it, I've tried it.

Hair removal creams have worked for me in the past so I decided to have a go at it again. I am extremely conscious of the hair I have on my arms. It has always been something I have been very embarrassed about since I was a child. Therefore, that is the place I went to apply my newly bought bottle of Veet Hair Removal Cream.

Veet Hair Removal Cream

This particular kit (retailing around £6 I think) comes with a 100ml tube of the hair removal cream and a bendy spatula device that you use to both smooth it on and scrape it off with.

The Veet box contents

Now this has been a product I have used for many years, I know it works and it is a quick, easy and painless way to remove my unwanted hair, therefore, the advised 'patch test' was not needed (or so I thought).

I began slathering the cream all over my arms as I would normally do and then set my timer to 5 minutes. The box recommends a minimum of 3 minutes and a maximum of 6 minutes.

After a few minutes I noticed a cold tingly sensation down my arms, but I brushed it off, putting the feeling down the cream 'doing its job'. After my alarm went, I eagerly started scraping the cream off with the given device. At this point my skin was extremely sensitive, I could barely touch the spatula against my sore skin. I resorted to washing it off with cool water, only to reveal bright red patches and open sores all over my arms!

The cream has actually burnt away at my skin, leaving it with tonnes of little open wounds! The pain was awful, it was as if someone had pricked me with a little knife all over my arms! :( I sent out a tweet on my Twitter page, SWalkerMakeup, asking for any help or advice and I immediately got bombarded with all sorts of responses from my followers saying that they had suffered with the same thing. I got lots of helpful advice from people and most of them said to hold a cold flannel over it to ease the stinging and then cover it in Savlon or Sudocream.

I re-read over the instructions to make sure I had done everything correctly, and I had!

Then something hit me on the front of the box....

They had changed the formula!! I can only think that this was the reason that I had had such a bad reaction to this cream. I was so used to using it in the past and I was fine, but the new formula clearly didn't agree with my poor arms! By this time it was getting very late and I decided to go to bed and see how my open burns were in the morning.

I woke up to find that my skin had soaked in all the Sudocream but I was left with nasty looking scabs and raised red rash-looking patches. What a state my arms looked :( now they are not only hair-free, but they are also complete with oozy wounds and red patches. Great.

The morning after the reaction

The photo above shows how my arms looked the morning after. I guess I have learnt the hard (and very painful) way! But I am thankful that I can warn you all of this harsh product! If you are looking to buy Veet Hair Removal Cream, I would say to avoid it and go for something else. You can clearly see what happened to me and I would hate for someone else to go through the same experience.

My arms are now feeling much less stingy and I am just waiting for the little sores to heal up completely. Most people on Twitter says this will take 2-3 days. My skin does feel extremely tight right now, but I guess I will just have to wait to be back to normal. I was so angry at what this product did to my skin and I will contacting the company that produces Veet to tell them of my experience.

Hope you all enjoyed reading - sorry for the gross photo's but I just had to share this with you!

Lots of love,

Sara

It's Raining Men! Hallelujah!

I can't wait any longer to talk about this beast of a shower gel. This is LUSH's latest shower gel release that came out with their Valentines Day collection (limited edition) and it goes by the name of 'It's Raining Men'.

I actually bought the smaller bottle first to give it a run for its money and it didn't fail to amaze me. This shower gel is the most divine thing I have ever smelt in my life. It is a mixture of honey, caramel, toffee and cakes! Yummm! Who could ask for anything better?! After using up half of the little baby bottle I decided it was about time I stocked up on the big daddy bottle before they sold out!

It's Raining Men Shower Gel - 500g

One of my all time favourite LUSH products is 'Honey I Washed The Kids' soap. However, I don't like the squeaky clean feeling it gives your skin after using it. It almost leaves you feeling tight and dry and wanting moisture! 'It's Raining Men' shower gel is the complete opposite, leaving your skin soft and supple but with the same amazing sweet honey scent! Perfection. One of the main benefits of this shower gel is that the scent actual lingers on your skin after you get out of the shower, making you smell good enough to eat!

Oh, and how could I forget - you can use it in your hair!! Honey smelling locks? Yes please. I will admit, it isn't the most moisturizing thing to put in your hair but for a quick swish through before you get out of the shower, I think it can be excused.

My Little Honey Scented Collection ;)

LUSH says:

"Get soaking wet and lather up just like the Weather Girls first commanded back in the disco days. Only this time, you're armed with one of the best shower gels you can buy. It’s Raining Men is made with lotus flowers to soothe your winter-ravaged bodies and moisturising, cleansing British honey from Wales. Our honey hand and body soap has become such a huge favourite that we just had to create a honey shower gel with the same scent. It smells like toffee-fudge, with refreshing sweet orange and bergamot oils to give it a little extra sweetness for you or your Valentine."

Prices are as follows:

100g Bottle -  £4.25
250g Bottle - £7.95
500g Bottle - £14.25

"Mmm can I have a taste Mummy? I smells nice!"

"Sniff sniff sniff!"
I think Millie agrees that this is a must-have product! Get your paws on it as soon as you can before they sell out! Remember, it is limited edition for Valentines Day so they may sell out pretty soon. I would deffinately say that if you love sweet smelling goodies, do not hesitate on getting the big bottle, this is your last chance! ;)

You can purchase the shower gel here:

Hope you all enjoyed this little product-rave!

Speak to you soon my lovelies :)

REVIEW & LOTD: Maybelline Eyestudio Lasting Drama Gel Eye Liner

I have been eying this product since a long time but whenever I would ask for it at any Maybelline counter, they would tell me that it was "out of stock". That made me long for it so much that when I finally bought one I was ecstatic and my happiness knew no bounds :) I felt like a kid who has been bought a new toy but has been asked to wait till morning to play with it... I just kept waiting for it to be morning so that I could finally wear it to office :)

Ok, let me tell you guys about it a bit. This is for those who already don't know about it's wonderful qualities :)

Maybelline Eyestudio Lasting Drama Gel Eye Liner

What the product claims...
As the name suggests, it is a gel eyeliner, which is extremely smudge proof and long lasting. It is jet black! And when I say jet black, I mean really really JETTEST of BLACK!!! :D I so love it for that...

As is evident from the pic, it comes in a cute glass container with an Aluminium cap and a super soft yet stiff brush. I am really impressed with the brush! The brush is just so perfect and so precise that it is really difficult to go wrong with it.

The gel liner in a pot and the high precision brush...
The gel liner takes 2 seconds to set and once it sets, it stays on the eye for like forever. Another plus for it is that it is odorless and does not rritate the eye. I apply it on my waterline, my tightline and above my lashline and it just doesn't irritate my eyes. My eyes don't burn, they dont start watering and they look beautifully defined :)

It costed me just Rs.375/- and I feel it is a very small price for something so wonderful. After all it is a kajal and an eyeliner combined into one :)

This is how it looks on my eyes:

Wednesday Wishlist

Would you believe me if I told you I didn't plan to do a Valentines Day themed Wednesday Wishlist? Well I spotted the three tops below whilst window shopping and they caught my eye, and EVERYONE wants the red dress. I didn't actually realise until after I'd put all the images in that all these items are pretty much love themed/Valentines colours!

Peter Pan Swing Lace Dress, £10.00, Topshop

(Out of stock, going for £80+ on ebay)

Do you remember when you couldn't go anywhere without seeing girls wearing black lace tops and dresses like these? Well now its the red lace dresses that are in style and in perfect timing as well with Valentines day next week. Because this dress is such a bold colour, a tan or black pair of heels would go nicely and accessories should be kept to a minimum. For extra oomph get your hair big with as much volume as you can and either have sexy smokey eyes with long fluttering eyelashes or keep the eye makeup basic and instead choose some bright red lips in a corresponding shade to the dress.

Cream and Red Glitter T-shirt, £14.99, Quiz Clothing

I love this top as its so cheeky and girly. Unfortunately being a crop top I do not think I have the figure for it! This would be great for a night out with skinny jeans and sky scraper black or red heels and might guarantee you a kiss! The sparkly lips will dress the outfit up. Team with a long black cardy in the day and again swap tan coloured shoes for heels to keep it casual.

Cream and Red Sequin Heart Top, £9.99, Quiz Clothing

This top is a bit similar to the last one but I like how its a little longer at the sides with a raised front which means again its quite in fashion at the moment. I'd suggest wearing this top in a similar way to the last!

Scrabble Love Top, £12.99, Internacionale

Another crop top! This little gem is a bit more girly and has more neutral colours which means a lot of things would go with this top (including the brogues bellow!). It would look gorgeous with a pale brown cardigan and light blue jeans, or with a pale blue vest top underneath. Makeup wise, the natural look would be best with this.

Felicity Contrasting Floral Brogues, £15.99, Missguided

I actually hate brogues with a passion but I think I'm finally coming around! Brogues remind me of something my dad would wear (or used to wear back in his day) and I just don't think they're the right type of shoes for a girl to wear! In addition, a lot of them just look like they'd rub on your ankle all day when you wear them without socks on. However, these are very, very cute. I think what I like about them is that they are so girly and they look like a nice, comfortable (less shiny!) material too. They also look like they would go with anything! I'll be keeping my eye on these and may give them a go in the future.

The real ins and outs of planning a wedding ; The Aftermath

By our guest blogger Laura Lowe

They say the apple never falls far from the tree, and in my case, the proverb was right. My Mum has been a single mother for years, and has done a brilliant job, probably due to her personality: she’s ballsy, opinionated, extremely feminist and believes that no woman needs a man. Something ringing a bell here?

So with my whole family wondering what the hell was making me so uncharacteristically subdued, we broke the news as gently as we could: primarily by shoving my sparkly ring under their noses and waiting to see what they said. Perhaps not the wisest idea in hindsight, but after picking their chins up from the floor, and looking at Rob like he’s a madman, they were very happy for us.

However, this was just the beginning... did I mention our families are both Irish Catholic?!

My parents, his parents, my grandparents, his grandparents, aunties, uncles, friends... I won’t go into the details, but this process involved a few bottles of wine and an expensive phone bill. For all those thinking what a wonderful, smiley time this was for us, don’t get romantic: me, being me, invariably forgot someone and panic ensued. The best bit of this whole messy, emotional scenario? Definitely the presents!

Girls, if you ever need to go through the hellish process of telling hundreds of friends and family the joyous news, perhaps take the precaution of writing a list first, just to make sure you don’t miss out Great Auntie Ethel?!

Step 1: the proposal... done and dusted.
Step 2: telling the parents... survived. Just.
Step 3: let the planning commence!

Meet My Best Friend!

UFO Video

Yes, as always, I may be a little slow on the ball with this but have you seen this videos?!

I have never seen anything like it! I am a firm believer in life on other planets and sightings are becoming more and more common these days. Unfortunately, so are non-believers so you constantly get people claiming that videos/photos/stories are hoaxes. However, these videos are far from a hoax. I don't understand how people can even suggest its a hoax! At the moment, FOUR videos have taken the internet by storm all showing this ball of light - whatever it is. And each video is taken at exactly the same time, in the same place from different views. How can it possibly be a hoax? Whatever it is, it's clearly not human. And if it's SOMEHOW man made then we should be worried because whoever have has the technological resources to create something like that - that travels that quickly (which, by the way, no human would survive) - they can't be entirely human.

Anyway, have a look, look up a few of the other videos and let me know what you think.

A Day in York - 29th of Jan 2011

Me and my boyfriend went to York last Saturday and had a lovely time. I'd wanted to go for ages and was so excited, the only thing was we only had a short day trip there and were on a budget so we didn't have the time or cash to do much! We will definitely be going back though!

York is known for its lovely surroundings - its filled with old, pebbled paths and narrow passageways. The whole town screams oldy worldy (for lack of a better description!) and has such a rich history. As soon as we arrived in York we found our bearings and found ourselves in front of the amazing cathedral which is what York is most well known for.

York Minister

The picture doesn't really do it any justice but I was absolutely amazed at how big it was - I had no idea it was so big or pretty! We popped inside later on in the day but didn't have time to go far in as you have to pay to go up the tower or to go around the main bits. But next time we go I would definitely visit York Minister again and spend a good few hours exploring round the whole place. I would love to get married here, but if I remember rightly, you can't get married in cathedrals unless you are very, very important or its exceptional circumstances..right?

Anyway, we wandered around The Shambles after this.

The Shambles

I know the photos are not very good. But The Shambles are these amazing little cobbled streets filled with cafes, boutiques and other shops. Part of Harry Potter was filmed here. Just walking through makes you feel like you are in another world, or rather another era! I was constantly walking into people because I was just gazing around with amazement not looking where I was going!

Unfortunately we didn't have time to do much shopping which was more of a shame on the shops because if I had the time and money I would buy everything I could in a boutique shop - I just adore them! We did however have time to pop into here...

Christmas Angels shop

Oh yes, a Christmas shop that is open all year round! If you know me then you will understand that this is literally heaven to me! And the shop was the cutest thing ever! That's me and my boyfriend on the last photo looking like geeks posing with with the Santa Claus (PS, isn't he handsome?! My boyfriend - not Santa - I am one lucky lady!). Anyway, yes, I adored this shop. So if anyone goes to York and wants to get their Christmas decorations/trees early then I'd recommend this place!

After this we went to the York Dungeons. We both love the dungeons, having been to the ones in London a million times. Therefore it was nice to go to a different one where we didn't know what to expect and where it was different history. It was a lot of fun in here and it was a little bit more family friendly than the London ones, little kids in our group were laughing the whole way round whilst I was screaming my head off and jumping! I liked how the actors/characters played it up though, they were giggling along with the children and making sure they were okay at particularly jumpy bits, but still kept it quite scary for the rest of us. We weren't aloud to take any pictures in here but I will take a picture from google to show you something that particularly scared me.

A Plague Doctor

Erm yes, this freaky thing was in one of the rooms and really scared me. I could have sworn it moved its head and was staring at me! We looked it up when we got home (The York dungeons didn't really mention what it was, probably as it was too freaky for the younger audience) but it's a plague doctor with a birds mask which was worn to stop them getting infected when treating patients. Very. Scary.

Next we went somewhere which was very interesting and just as scary (if not, scarier) then the York dungeons. If you're like me and you're into all supernatural stuff i.e you love looking up things to do with ghosts/UFO's and would love to see a ghost just to say you have but would secretly be petrified if it ever happened - then you will love where we went next. We went to this house along the Shambles, hidden between two shops like any other normal house. It was called 'Haunted' and is a real life haunted house. I wasn't too sure at first until the lady told me that its all 100% real - aka no gimmicks or people jumping out to scare you, no put on sound effects and no fake ghosts. Simply all it is, is walking around this house in a small group listening to an audio tour which directs you from room to room while telling you about the history of the house and its gruesome past.

It was really, really interesting. I felt completely uneasy in every single room and although nothing happened as we walked round, people in our group commented how weird things had happened when they went round before. I also read the guest books whilst we were waiting to go in and people had written how they felt dizzy in rooms, how they saw things, how they felt themselves being grabbed by invisible forces! I just loved it, it was completely realistic as the aim was not to scare you but you felt scared yourself simply by walking round.

Haunted House, York

This is a photo taken in the first room, the audio tour was just talking about how people have seen a little ghost girl sitting on that sofa so I immediately took a photo and seem to have caught an orb!

This is my boyfriend having a stare off with a reindeer, I seem to have also captured an orb here to the right of the door.

This is a photo from in the sèance room which freaked me out the most. I just kept thinking 'if something is going to happen, it will happen in here'. You can see yet another orb among the spread out Ouija board's and the room was clearly set up for various investigations. The lady said that Most Haunted had been there (and ran out screaming) and I assume various investigators visit the house. Anyway, this room was pitch black mostly and I just felt like we shouldn't be there.

However the mood was soon ruined as I had my boyfriend's keys in my pocket and he has this alarm on them so if he loses them he can just whistle or make a loud noise and they'll start beeping..and yes, this embarrassingly began to happen thanks to the loud audio tour!

The last room made my boyfriend feel the most uneasy as a murder had taken place there and he took this photo.

I don't know what it is though. By then I just wanted to get out because the keys were going off and I felt really embarrassed in case we were ruining the experience for anyone but it was the last room anyway!

After the Haunted House we went to get some food. Unfortunately everywhere was really busy, so we ended up in Cafe Rouge which is everywhere, despite wanting to eat in a real York pub or something. The only thing I didn't like about York was that it was so, so busy! You couldn't stop and look around or take a photo without someone getting in the way or walking into you and we tried at least five different places to eat before we found a table. But this didn't surprise me as it's such a lovely place. We will definitely be going back again, hopefully for a weekend so we can go on one of the ghost walks! There's actually something coming up in March called 'Spooksfest' which I wouldn't mind going to!

So that concludes my post on the lovely York! I didn't post all my photos as I will be publishing a proper feature on York and next time I go I'd love recommendations on somewhere to eat or just any recommendations! So please let me know if you live there or if you've been, the best places to eat/stay/visit etc!

And for anyone hoping to go, I'd recommend the places I mentioned above, especially the Haunted House and I'd recommend going for at least a day staying overnight or a weekend as there is so much to do!
