NAILS OF THE DAY // MODELS OWN TOP TURQUOISE

There's just something about having your nails painted a nice colour that makes you feel like you've got your life together, isn't there? I don't know about you but that, along with actually making the effort to eat breakfast, just makes me feel like for once I've got my shit together. It's often when you've got your nails painted all nice that you feel feminine and like it's the perfect final touch to putting together an outfit. 

I probably do my nails a lot more now than I used to, in fact I'd say I go through phrases where sometimes I'll paint them a new colour every week and other times I'll leave them to chip and then even in some horrible circumstances, just paint over the previously chipped ones (Don't judge me!). But with my Accessorize addict rearing it's head again, I can't show off my beautfiful new bracelets with horrid looking nails. So there you go. Here are my nails this week.

I also stuck on some flower nail stickers just because I felt extra girly. I'm pretty sure I got these from the pound store! And, as shown above, the nail varnish shade is obviously Models Own Top Turquoise.

LOOK OF THE WEEK // IT'S TIME TO SHAKE YOUR SKELETONS

Remember when I got invited to the beauty bloggers tea party at the Ajala Spa? Well here's what I wore to the event! I knew right away I wanted something quite stylish and sophisticated for my first ever proper blogging event, but as it was taking place in a spa I wanted something quite feminine too. Luckily for me, I have a very stylish older sister and remembered when I'd borrowed these clothes from her and worn them in Egypt last year. It isn't my usual type of look but I instantly loved how nice the whole outfit look put together and have since been on the look out for my own maxi skirt. A long maxi skirt is again something I never thought I'd be able to pull off!

I thought I'd struggle a little wearing the long skirt, especially as I'd be travelling into London by train so I'd be not only walking around but also stepping on and off the platform. I had this fear that the bottom of the skirt would get stuck in the tube door or something and the train would take off, ripping the skirt off me...alas I was fine, but I did have to hold the skirt up a few times.

It was a real lovely day though and nice and warm so for the most part, after the event me and Lisa just strolled around soaking up the sunshine so I think the outfit reflected our very relaxed day! I paired the outfit with gold sandles (and hot pink toenails!), loose bangles and the stunning gold leaf necklace (which is also my sisters). I think the only downside about this outfit is that I now have to give it all back to my sister :(

Still, I've got to admit, it was kind of nice dressing a bit more girly for the day and feeling far more sophisticated as usual!

SHOPPING HAUL // FEATURING ACCESSORIZE & TK MAXX

I headed into town recently and couldn't deny myself a quick mooch in TK Maxx and Accessorize. I really love what I bought so thought I'd do a little shopping haul post!

First up, I bought these beautiful bracelets from Accessorize. I adore Accessorize, everything is so feminine and delicate. Plus, we all know the right accessories can transform any outfit. Of course I had to buy the bracelets with the little skulls on and had a little chat with the cashier about my love for all things skull related. She insisted that the new season of jewellery is going to be filled with skulls! I'm so glad, especially after I missed out on that other Accessorize skull bracelet that I was looking for, even after searching about five different shops!

Aren't they gorgeous? The turquoise and gold bracelet set was £4.00, and the friendship bracelet set was £8.00. I then also 'accidentally' ended up picking up this gorgeous skull necklace whilst I was in there today. To be fair it was only £6.00 so I've justified it...it's so cute!

And finally I got this lovely grunge top from TK Maxx. It was a little pricey (for TK Maxx anyway) at £12.99 but I love it - it's got an all lace back and just reminds me of another 'New York City' top I almost bought earlier this year from Miss Selfridge which was about £35.00 if I still remember rightly soooo I guess that justifies it ;) I think it'll look great with my leather shorts. There was loads of nice stuff in TK Maxx as usual (somehow I found myself eyeing up a pair of red shorts!) and I had to talk myself into walking out to avoid buying anything else.

APP REVIEW // SNAPTEE

Recently I was given the opportunity to review Snaptee, a brand new mobile app that allows you to design and order your own custom t-shirt completely in app. Not only can you completely customize the design to how you want it but you can also 'sell' the design, allowing other people to purchase your t-shirt and earn you some money!

I was immediately intrigued - I've never really had the opportunity to customize my own t-shirt before and the fact that it can all be done quickly and easily through an app definitely got me interested. I thought perhaps if it was all done through an app then maybe I wouldn't have the chance to be as creative as I'd like - but I was wrong. If anything, you can be even more creative then I'd have imagined! You can grab photos directly from your photo album or Instagram and from there you can pick your design - choosing from a variety of different sizes, shapes, patterns and effects. You can even add text if you choose to.

Any thoughts I've had about customizing t-shirts before have gone out the window. I used to think that the process would be picking a random website online or going to see the bloke who has his own market stall, having the choice between either neon sparkly font or a standard box image photo and being disappointed with the quality of the print and the t-shirt. However, Snaptee has made it so easy and the process is completed within moments.

Designing my t-shirt was only half the battle (although that was hard enough, there were so many ideas to choose from!) and once I'd placed my order, I eagerly waited to see what would turn up at my door. I was a little worried at first because the image I used is tiny and has small text, so I did wonder if it would end up being blurry or unreadable on my shirt. My t-shirt arrived really quickly and I'm more then happy with it all! The design is clear and easy to read and the top is really good quality - it fits perfectly and is soft and comfy to wear.

Snaptee basically helped me feel like a fashion designer without any hassle. It actually all coincided with an idea I've had for ages about making t-shirts featuring lyrics from my favourite songs. I didn't think the idea would work really but using Snaptee has changed my mind. I found an image that included lyrics from a personal favourite song of mine and it looked really cool and not at all corny. I think, considering I looked into the copyright of it all, I'll hopefully be able to make loads more cool tops with my favourite lyrics by using Snaptee!

The only other thing I'd like to say is that I'd love to see Snaptee expanding the range in future and hopefully including other types of t-shirts! I think it would be a great idea to have the opportunity to add your designs to vest tops or something, although to be honest it's not hard to cut a standard t-shirt into a vest top anyway.

APP REVIEW // TODAY I'M WEARING

Every fashion blogger needs at least one 'What I wore today' app or go-to website. Mine is Today I'm Wearing.

In terms of 'What I wore today' apps, I've tried them all. Although I like sticking to LookBook for uploading my looks in more detail or linking to the blog, I've been searching for a 'What I wore today' app for a while now. I've tried both Pose and What I Wore Today, and they were easy to use but for some reason I just prefer Today I'm Wearing.

First of all, I think perhaps I like the way you can upload full length photos, whereas on the other two apps the photographs have to be square. That's nice for when I want to put a few pictures into one, such as the outfit, my makeup and any accessories like I do on LookBook, but the reason I want to use an App for my looks is because I want it to be easy and on the go. Apps are specifically for saving time and making life easier, so creating a collage picture or editing photos together so that it fits into a square isn't something I want to do. I'd rather keep that for the website or my blog.

My favourite part of this app is how personalized it is. Obviously you can name the look and give it a description, but I absolutely adore the fact that you can note where you wore the outfit (gig, first date etc) and how you felt! I really love this personal touch and I think this reason is one of the biggest reasons for why this app stands out for me more.

It's really cute too with gorgeous colours and a simple and easy to use theme on both the website and app. It's very straight to the point - you literally aim your camera, snap the picture, type in any details and you're done.

I will say that I had a few problems to begin with, but I loved it so much that I stuck to it and all those issues seem to be resolved now. I had some trouble uploading photos and adding the descriptions as the upload would just dissapear and sometimes re-appear about ten or so minutes later. However it all seems to be fine now and I did message them direct - they explained to me that they have a very sensitive system that catches blacklisted and innapropiate words and sometimes normal words trigger it. It took me a good three or four days to actually upload my first look, but it just goes to show how determined I was to use this app because even after that I couldn't stand not being able to get it to work ha! Now it's all fine.

I think this is the ideal app for fashion bloggers on the go and is the perfect alternative to showing off your outfit quickly without the fuss of blogging it immediately!

WEDNESDAY WISHLIST // FD AVENUE

Today I decided to put together a Wednesday Wishlist, something I haven't done for a long time now simply because it's not really anything original and it's also hard lusting after loads of pretty clothes every week and writing about them when you can't afford them! However I thought I'd do one today for old times sake, featuring a brand I used to work with, simply because their products are so cheap. Although I'm skint, the brand features lots of high quality but still affordable clothing meaning that if I wanted to treat myself (which I'm really tempted to!) I could!

FD Avenue, formally known as Funky Divaa, have had a massive makeover, re-launching their range with a brand new website and name - but thankfully with still affordable prices! I particularly love this brand because they tend to work with bloggers quite a lot which I always think is a good sign when it comes to companies. This is just a small taster of some of my favourite items from the website, demonstrating the large range of different products they have. I love how FD Avenue stocks some beautiful feminine and pastel clothes for the summer, like the beautiful pleated chiffon top, as well as bang on trend items like the denim skirt (and we all know denim is everywhere at the moment, I think denim skirts are set to be HUGE this summer) and the leather look bralet. The USA shorts are a little edgy and different - meaning there's something for everyone on this website and finally they even stock dresses so cute that celebrities have been spotted in them! The white lace dress is perfect for channelling your inner Frankie Sanford this summer. STYLE CRUSH // TAYLOR MOMSEN

Although I'm not too keen on the giant raccoon eyes, I am head over heels in lust with everything else that rock chick Taylor Momsen has to offer. It's not to everyones taste, but there's just something about the smudged eyeliner, ripped and tatty t-shirt dresses and shredded tights that she manages to pull off perfectly. On most it would look like the slutty sign of a bad night - but on Miss Momsen it just screams a grungy can't-be-bothered persona whilst still looking effortlessly stylish. I love how her outfits are less than perfect - the distressed material and messy hair gives over to a much more realistic look which is more me than the classy that I often try to be. It suggests that she has had a good night or is having a good time whilst offering a giant fuck you to anyone who dare judge her.

Plus, in a weird way, it's sexy. You show me any guy that isn't turned on or tempted by the image of a woman in hold ups, an oversized t-shirt or shredded tights that show just the right amount of skin. I really love how despite actually wearing next to nothing, she somehow manages to keep it dignified and showing less skin then your average lady on a night out. The studs, leather and lace are very rock chick but she never clashes them all together too much at once in one outfit. Less is more when it comes to this grunge look and if you can look like you've made little to no effort whilst still looking as hot as her, you know you've done it right.

The best part is, it's so easy to re-create these looks yourself. Everything she's wearing is bang on trend from checkered flannel shirts to leather leggings. It's all about picking one particular trend right now (or not!) and just working it with whatever you have in the back of your wardrobe. A lot of her looks incorporate staple pieces like a well fitting pair of denim shorts, a plain black pair of hold ups or just a leather jacket. Simple items like these can spruce up - or rather, in this case, 'rock up' (as I call it!) most outfits very easily with no effort at all. If the giant heels are too much, invest in a trusty pair of ladies military boots. They go with EVERYTHING. Except, y'know, really formal clothes like a wedding dress or when it's boiling hot outside and you're sunbathing. But generally, even a cute pair of black military boots or black converse trainers can add an edge to most formal outfits too if you're confident enough. I can't be the only one who wants to wear converse on my wedding day...

If I could pull this look off every day in England I would - but recently, discarding the terrible weather pointing to the fact that I'd probably get pneumonia, I've realized that quite frankly I, and anyone else, can pull off this look or any other one as we see fit. As I've began to experiment more with my own style and lean more towards leather hot pants, tatty wifebeater dresses and jeans so skinny that they'd rival a toothpick, I've realized there's nothing whatsoever to suggest I can't pull that particular look off. Just like channelling my inner boohoo child on a hot summers day with lots of bangles, a pair of sandals and a long flowing dress, it's not down to my looks, my style or even my size to suggest just how well I may or may not pull it off. It's my confidence. Don't get me wrong, I won't be squeezing into a tiny size 0 pair of hot pants anytime soon, just like I wouldn't choose to wear a dress that's far too big for me - there is a limit of course. But as long as I feel confident wearing something, then I sure as hell am pulling it off. Never in a million years would I have thought about wearing a pair of leather hot pants/shorts but had I left the house feeling unhappy and unconfident with how they sat on my curvy hips, people would notice. I wouldn't be pulling them off at all. But generally liking the way they looked on me and not giving a shit about what other people thought secured the success that was pulling off something I'd never have dared try in the past.

So if there's a look, style or even just a daring dress you want to try but don't think it's very 'you' - give it a go anyway. Experiment in the comfort of your own home. Work it with different accessories and make up styles until you're happy and never, ever hold back because of the fear of trying something new.

Now if you'll excuse me, I'm off to take a pair of scissors to an old pair of tights (they were already ruined, I promise you, my nan informed me yesterday that I'd unknowingly had a big ladder in the back of them whilst wearing them in work all day) and distress them so it looks like I've fallen over a million times in them. Because by the end of my next night out wearing them, I probably would have anyway so why not work the look in my favour early ;)

Although I'll forgo the giant raccoon eyes and I'm not even going to attempt the gigantic heels she seems to wear, considering how clumsy I am that's just an accident waiting to happen...

Mini Shopping Haul

So yesterday I had a little time spare between a job interview and work so I had a mooch in town. I ended up in TK Maxx which was a huge mistake being that I hadn't actually planned to buy anything. But as always, TX Maxx is stocking the most gorgeous edgy stuff so I couldn't resist buying these three tops. Also, I've been planning to start doing some shopping haul posts for ages now. I was going to do a video instead but my hair is looking bad today and I still haven't unpacked from my sisters house haha.

I love this black top because at the front it just looks basic but the back is completely lace. It's flirty and revealing without being too over the top and I love any tops that have an interesting back. I have a similar top in cream too and think this top would spruce up a simple outfit of just jeans and flats. 

I wasn't too sure about this top at first because it looked a bit short and my wardrobe doesn't tend to have much block colour. But once I tried it on it actually looked really nice and I thought it would be great to have some brighter coloured edgy/punk tops that aren't white or black! I can't help but think this would look amazing with a pair of skinny black jeans which is of course an excuse for me to finally purchase a pair from Topshop.

Finally I love this top because the anchor design is just too cute (but it's very scene, I know!). I like the little rhinestones on it and it's kind of short which means it'll be perfect for summer. I think it would look great with a pair of denim shorts and my converse or maybe some biker boots. It also reminds me so much of Dougie Poynter's clothing range, Saint Kidd, which I've yet been unable to afford anything from. This top can tide me over until I can!

Altgoether these tops cost me less than £25 which is so cheap. I always love going into TK Maxx because they have a really cheap range of quirky tops like these and often they're one offs. If you don't buy them there and then you'll miss out, which I discovered yesterday when I was hoping to buy a top I'd seen but not bought last time I was in there! It's nice to know that they're one of a kind. These tops would be perfect for the many gigs I've got coming up this year which (so far!) include Kids In Glass Houses, The Dead Famous, Funeral For A Friend, Madina Lake and finally Bowling For Soup.

Having discovered some new gig buddies has been one of my favourite things about this year. My new years resolution has been to go to more gigs and it looks like I'm fulfilling it. So many awesome bands to see!

I also picked up some more candles after buying a cute black one a few weeks back. A bit gothic, I know, but they look lovely in my room and to be honest I didn't even know you could buy black candles.

I couldn't keep you but I'll keep my word, it's the most beautiful pain in the world

Here's what I wore on Easter Sunday! Mamaw always does a big roast dinner for Easter (well, she does a roast dinner every Sunday anyway but she goes all out for Easter/Christmas/celebrations etc) so we had the whole family round. I grabbed this dress from a friend - I was putting loads of stuff on Ebay for her and she said if I spotted anything I fancied I could have it. At first I didn't think this dress was very me - and it's a 14 so it's too big for me really - but I tried it on and loved it. It's very girly and sophisticated. It isn't something I'd usually wear but I love it. I'm going to keep it back mainly for job interviews/work I think. I really love the colours and the design.

This was actually the only second time I've worn those shoes (kitten heels, I know, not very sexy!) since buying them for my brothers wedding a couple of years ago. But they went so well and my other shoes in the same colour were far too high for just dinner.

Make up was basic with excessive use of Urban Decay's 'Smog', an everlasting favourite of mine. I really must learn how to take proper photographs of my make up, especially my eye make up, because I love to experiment with different looks and colours! Any ideas anyone?

Dressing for a winter wedding - the follow up

A while back I posted about how hard it is to dress for a winter wedding. When you're 85% sure it's going to rain and 100% sure it's going to be cold, when the shops are for some reason only stocking summer dresses/expensive dresses and everything you try on just isn't right, what do you do?

You turn to ebay of course!

After spending hours trawling around Luton, Milton Keynes, St Albans and even Bicester Village and even after giving in and buying one rather too revealing summer dress after being fed up of looking everywhere else, I finally found the perfect dress via ebay for only £5.

Ladies, next time you have a wedding to go to, make sure you look on ebay FIRST before everything else. And early too, so you have more than enough time for it to be delivered and tried on.

I decided on this beautiful red asymmetrical jersey dress which I thought was absolutely lovely. It's a nice colour, it's shorter at the front and longer at the back which means it's a bit different and looks interesting, and most of all it was warm and not at all skimpy!

This was having tried it on straight after it arrived so the skirt is creased - the skirt wasn't actually in this style once it had been ironed! I also forgot to get a full length picture on the day...

I paired it with a cream skinny belt and some beautiful over sized bangles. Overall, it was just the effect I was going for - it was simple but also glam enough for a wedding and at only five pound, I couldn't really complain. I wore it with a leather jacket just whilst we were outside of the venue, but despite the rainy weather, it was warm enough both inside the registry office and the reception venue that I could wear it just as it was without the jacket for most of the day.

My sister also done my hair and make up for me and I thought my hair looked absolutely stunning - I had it up in a messy side bun with plaits either side and it looked great with my fringe too.

It was a really lovely day. We don't often get to see all of the family at once so it was nice to see everyone and just celebrate my uncle finally getting married! The first few drinks at the bar were free (in fact because of the fact that I got ready at my sisters and along with her boyfriend we spent the morning drinking champagne and rocking out to Nirvana, I was tipsy quite early on...oops), the DJ played awesome music (lots of cheese music to dance to and even some Fall Out Boy for a true wedding tradition, as began by me and my sister back at my cousins wedding of '07) and the food was yummy. The bride, Ruby, looked absolutely lovely too, wearing my aunt's old vintage wedding dress!

So I think although originally we predicted vintage and lace was going to be big this year, I think another huge trend for weddings is definitely going to be 'less is more'! As you can see advertised by myself and the other ladies above (we are family! From L-R that's my cousin, my mum and aunt - who were bridesmaids - my sister and me - don't we all look lovely?!), we've all chosen simple dresses and just glammed them up with the use of accessories.

Band Brands Wishlist - The Maine

Since growing up, I'd like to think I've become just that little bit more stylish. However the problem with having a soft spot for alternative clothing - and especially band t-shirts - is that some of it isn't always very nice. It's no surprise that I love anything that features skulls/crosses/the colour black but this sucks sometimes because it's not always very feminine or versatile, and often I find I can only usually pair these types of tops with jeans (although that normally looks quite edgy as it is!). The worst thing is band t-shirts though, especially the type that you pick up in a rush after a gig. My wardrobe is filled with band tops that I rarely get to wear.

Normally they're overpriced (if you buy from outside the venue!), and buying from a merch stand means you don't have the chance to try them on. I love lots of American bands which means confusing American sizing - the amount of tops I've bought over the years that have just ended up massive on me and therefore refined to only being worn to bed or lounging around the house is ridiculous! And as much as I hate to say it, some designs just look tacky or corny with oversized band logos or bright girly colours against a black background. Sometimes it's really hard to support your favourite band and look stylish at the same time!

I'm aware this post may be a bit hit and miss because you all may not necessary like The Maine! But that's another reason why I'm posting this - although I'm generally against the whole wearing a bands t-shirt when you're not even a fan of the band thing, I'd like to think that it is possible to find band t-shirts that are that stylish that you could wear just to look good and not just because you want to show off your favourite band - aka something you'd see in a shop and want to buy without even knowing it was band merch because it's just that cute :)

I've searched high and low for some new band merch recently and here are my favourite picks from one of my favourite bands which I think are fashionable or cute enough to wear as an outfit and not just lounging around the house like the other tops I have hidden in my wardrobe!

I absolutely adore these three tops and they are definitely my most favourite. I love the first one because it's so simple - it's ideal for summer and being a croptop, it'll look lovely with highwaisted shorts. It's named after their album, Pioneer & The Good Love, but I just really love how cute and simple it is. The second top I obviously love because it has a skull on it! I actually already own this top, I got it free with a pre order of their DVD and chose a medium, but when it arrived it was massive on me so normally I wear it just over leggings or when I'm feeling pretty slouchy. I'm thinking of ordering it in a smaller size and cutting off the sleeves to make it into a really edgy vest top, which again would go with almost anything and look a bit more rocker/grunge. The way they've got the band name on this is pretty cool too. The last top I love because it has a bit of colour in it which means it can be wore on a day to day basis as again it's pretty versatile. I love how it still has the bands name on it - between the lines of the design - but without it being too big. So many band t-shirts have the name or logo fill up the whole top and it looks overbearing or cheap but I love how they've chosen this design and still encorporated the band name. It looks great with a pair of leather shorts, as shown on the model.

Without realizing it, I've kind of chosen what looks like a bunch of men's tops here haha! These tops would be ideal for any guys who like The Maine and actually if any ladies are reading this it would be a perfect gift for your boyfriend! The tops are listed as unisex. The first one is quite on trend right now and I think it would pretty much go with anything - it would be perfect to wear to another gig. The jumper is very popular and at first I wasn't too sure about it as I have enough things will skulls on them! However I think it would be nice to wear in the winter with a pair of skinny black jeans and would keep me warm and toasty. Finally the last top has another really funky design and again I think it would look great with just a standard pair of jeans.

I think when I next get paid I'll definitely be treating myself! I also have my eye on a band bracelet and necklace which isn't offical merch of The Maine but are really cute nonetheless. There's also a really cool top that I want but unfortunately this isn't available to buy anymore and hasn't been for a good few years. I love it because it's so ironic - the story behind it is that the lead singer, John Ohh (John O'Callaghan) ran into a tree drunk and knocked out his two front teeth so had to get fake teeth instead ha!

I'd love to continue this feature - I have my eye on lots of other merch at the moment from the likes of All Time Low, Fall Out Boy and, although I know it's tecnically not a band, Dougie Poynter's St Kidd range. Keep an eye out for some similar posts to this one!

I was out and about doing some interviews today for a local company (soon to be blogged about!) so I wanted a look that was casual but still a little nice too as I'd be on camera :) 

Anyway, a simple blue top which I'm sure has featured in a look of the week before, but this time I've spruced it up with a nice skinny belt. I really love the subtle gem detail on this top, and with the belt and bangles, it looks just that bit more classy. I paired it with my new Topshop jeans and biker boots.

And my make up is just my day-to-day makeup. I've taken to wearing my favourite Kate Moss Rimmel lipstick in Shade 107 on a more casual basis now - I love it that much! - but only a little over the top of one of my more nude Benefit lipsticks, as it's still a bit much to wear just by itself.
