Coconut Face Mask Recipes

Coconut has been used as a skin care product for thousands of years by many different cultures to moisturize skin and hair. Coconut oil is rich in Vitamin E and fatty acids (like lauric acid, myristic acid, capric acid and others) which are anti-fungal, anti-oxidizing and anti-bacterial making it great for acneic skin and for delivering other nutrients deep into your skin.

Coconut also offers mild SPF protection (approximately SPF 4) which is another reason it has been applied to skin by generations of fishermen and tradespeople who have plenty of exposure to the sun every day.

\"Face Mask\"

Coconut is known for its conditioning properties for skin and hair. It's no surprise then that Coconut milk face masks and treatments are very nourishing and moisturizing for skin. Making a Coconut face mask or Coconut oil moisturizer or serum base also benefits skin by allowing any other ingredients to work their magic on specific skin conditions because of the high fatty acid content of Coconut.

Coconut Face Mask Recipes

For example, a serum made of Coconut oil with Lavender, Chamomile, Yarrow, Carrot and Borage oil offers moisturizing and anti-aging benefits for skin.

When making skin care products & home made skin care recipes using Coconut oil it's important to use extra virgin Coconut Oil so because the process leaves it in its most useable state for your skin.

You can also use Coconut Milk or Cream in masks as a substitute to or as a compliment to Coconut Oil based moisturizers (like a complete beauty regime from cleansing to moisturizing).

Blend together 1/2 cup of Coconut cream, 1/4 cup finely ground oatmeal to make a moisturizing base and you can add a multitude of other ingredients that target specific needs for your skin. For example, if you want a moisturizing exfoliating mask peel you can add Papaypa or Pineapple to the mask. The enzyme papain in Papaya acts like a mild acid peel to remove dead skin cells and stimulate new cell growth.

If you want an anti-wrinkle blend for around your eyes you can use Coconut oil as a base and add Macadamia, Carrot, Rosehip and essential oils like Neroli to the Coconut oil to make an extremely moisture boosting potent anti-aging serum.

There are an almost infinite number of combinations you can create using oils and foods that are rich in skin enriching emollients that when used regularly, leave your skin looking and feeling amazing every day.

There are so many natural ingredients for homemade skin care recipes and home made natural face masks that are loaded with beneficial vitamins, enzymes, fatty acids and more. If you know what the benefits of each ingredient or essential oil are and what they do you can make any skin care treatment, skin lotion or serum for the cost of a few dollars and in only a few minutes at home. They are not only cheap and easy to make, but usually as if not more effective at delivering results for your skin.

You don't need a big budget or lots of time to have the best skin care at home - it's just looking in the right places and finding the right information to make having great skin every day a reality.

Homemade Face Mask Recipes For Different Skin Types

Some of the best DIY face masks ever created are easy, cheap and conveniently homemade. You'll be tempted to taste these nutritious and delicious recipes that are intended to treat your face.

Here are a few basic recipes for homemade face masks based on your particular skin, no matter if you have oily, dry, sensitive or combination skin.

\"Face Masks For Acne\"

1. Oily Skin Face Mask

Homemade Face Mask Recipes For Different Skin Types

If your skin is somewhat oily or greasy, try a yogurt or plum facial mask.

Plain or organic yogurt is a superior hydrating agent for the skin since it's loaded with lactic acid, which helps to effectively shed dead skin cells and revitalize new skin cell growth.

Plums have anti-oxidant vitamins A and C that protect your skin against free radicals and also increase skin's pliability, suppleness and overall appearance. Both of these particular vitamins are typically used in oil-control and anti-acne products for skin care.

Recipe: Poach and thoroughly strain four ripe plums, and let them cool. Mash them together and combine a few tablespoons of plain or organic yogurt, a small spoonful of sweet almond oil, and add just enough cornflour to make a workable consistency so you can easily apply it to your face. The sweet almond oil is rich with anti-microbial properties that stop bacteria from spreading which is the main culprit in acne.

Caution: This recipe is very sticky and messy!

2. Dry Skin Face Mask

Avocados are one of the healthiest foods on our planet. This makes sense since they contain the two essential fatty acids omega-6 and omega-9 (which contribute to skin's suppleness and help the regeneration of skin and tissue), vitamin E moisturizing properties, and chlorophyll (the essential matter in plant life, which helps to regenerate our skin cells). Avocados are perfect for dry skin since they absorb easily into the skin.

Recipe: Completely smash up a ripe avocado. Add in a small spoonful of super-hydrating liquid honey and blend them together well before applying to your face.

3. Sensitive Skin Face Mask

Butter is an outstanding source of vitamin A. And, since vitamin A helps to revive skin's texture and accelerate blood flow to collagen fibers found deep within the skin, it's excellent for eliminating wrinkles and fine lines.

Recipe: Cut off a tablespoon from a stick of unsalted butter and let it acclimate to room temperature. Once the butter is soft, add in a small amount of rolled porridge oats and a tablespoon of creamy plain yogurt. Mix the ingredients well until they are just smooth enough to apply to your face easily. The combination has a cool and calming effect.

4. Combination Skin Face Mask

Bananas are a good source of nutrients that help skin stay supple and enormously soft when they are used topically. Simultaneously, they are wonderful for combination skin types since they are non-oily.

Popular Homemade Skin Care Recipes You Can Enjoy

Homemade skin care can be as easy as mixing up a small amount of oatmeal and milk and making a body scrub that costs you pennies on the dollar compared to comparable products at the grocery store. Plus, they are fun to make, you know exactly what went in them and if you have any form of allergic reaction, you don't have to make any more than what you need at a time. Sometimes store bought items lose their potency before you can use it at all. By making your own products, you can have as little or as much as you need. Here are some popular homemade skin care recipes you can enjoy.

Before you can make your own skin care products, you need a few recipes. Let's start by making our own lip balm. Most people forget to include their lips in their skin care regimen, but the skin on them can get as chapped and dry as the rest of the skin on our face. By keeping a lip balm on them, they stay moisturized and soft. This citrus based lip balm uses the following ingredients:

\"Castor Oil For Acne\"

- 1 teaspoon of natural beeswax

- 1 teaspoon of calendula oil

- 1 teaspoon of apricot kernel oil

- A few drops of orange, lemon, or lime essential oil

Start by melting the beeswax and adding the apricot and calendula oils to the pot. Continually stir the mixture until it is well blended and the wax mass has the same consistency throughout. Keep stirring the wax as you remove it from the heat and let it cool. Add the essential oil and stir it into the wax well, then store it in a plastic container or jar and use everyday to keep your lips soft and smooth.

Chocoholics can rejoice because we've been saying for years that chocolate is good for you. It's a great way to make your skin feel silky and luxurious and it's also great to protect your skin from free radicals. This chocolate facial mask is not only decadent, but it will exfoliate the dead skin from your face. To make it, combine 1/3 cup cocoa (chocolate powder), ¼ cup of honey, 2 tablespoons of heavy or sour cream, and 3 teaspoons of oatmeal powder in a large bowl until consistent. Apply it to your face and gently massage it into your skin to exfoliate the dead cells from it. Leave the mixture on your face for about 20 minutes and then rinse off with warm water. You'll notice the difference in your skin right away.

Our hands are the most used and most seen parts of our body. We subject them to the torture of dirt, harsh chemicals, and over washing. We tend to forget to treat them to the same care that we give the rest of our body. By using a hand soak or masque, we can help make our hands soft and pliable with little to no work. The easiest way to do this is by soaking your hands in a ½ cup of warm olive oil. This helps moisturize not only your hands, but also your nails. Another way is by using a masque. Cook and mash two potatoes, mix in a little butter or olive oil and one capsule of Vitamin E to make the masque. Cover your hands with the potatoes, let it dry and then rinse with warm water.

Homemade skin care products are very cost effective in this time of economic crisis. You can save not only money, but the gas it costs to go and buy new products. And, if you find that you enjoy making these recipes, why not share them and introduce your friends to the joy of homemade skin care products. They will thank you.
