Pictures From The Present ; Snapshots of how I've spent this week

Week of 26th March - 1st April 2012

Garden Hideaway
I was down my Nan's this week and had to take a snap of this. She has this at the top of her garden (which is an amazing garden in its own as she loves gardening) along with like three greenhouses. I used to spend loads of summers down my Nan's and I used to always sit in here on a hot summers day with the radio on. I used to always love sitting in here when it rained outside too. It's so cosy!

New Blazer
I'm in love with my new coral blazer! I've wanted a blazer for ages and randomly tried this on and my Mum talked me into buying it. I think it suits me really well. The only thing I'm worried about is the size/shape - they only had it in an 8 or a 14 so I had to pick it up in a 14. The thing is with blazers is that they can look really unfeminine if they aren't quite fitted. I think this is okay though.

More sausage rolls!
Everyone loved my sausage rolls so much the other week that I was forced to make more ha!

This week I've been...

Watching... The Office and The National Lampoons Vaction films
Reading...The Hunger Games (at last!)
Listening to...The Academy Is...and You Me At Six
Playing...Draw Something on my phone
Smelling of...Very Valentino Perfume for Women by Valentino
Perving on...Josh Franceschi
Loving...Being single and the thought of summer

Despite being up to lots, I haven't taken many photos this week! I've mainly been concentrating on a big idea I've got coming up - but my lips are sealed until I work out how I'm gonna do things! I've really spent most of this week making the most of the weather. On Wednesday my Mum had a work meeting in Bletchley (she doesn't work in Bletchley but her meeting was there) and as the meeting was only brief and it was her day off, we went and made a day off it. Me and Dad sat outside in the lovely sunshine with some chips then when Mum was finished we had a mooch around the shops, before coming back to TK Maxx. I was surprised to find that there have been a lack of fit guys working in TK Maxx lately :( I think they have taken on a new method and dotted them out around the store and just put old ladies on the tills instead. I was very sad about this as I thought I looked quite nice Wednesday and fancied a bit of eyeflirting. Nevermind.
I've been taking Jasper for quite a few walks as well this week. I've been really eager to get out and bike riding too. Thursday me and my sister went snowboarding, which you all know, and it was really fun. Fun week :)

Snowboarding Fun!

Yesterday I had my first snowboarding lesson!

Snowboarding is something I have ALWAYS wanted to try. When I was younger I used to love that snowboarding game on the PS2 where you could do amazing tricks, I was always so good at it! Last year my sister found a deal on Groupon to go snowboarding and went with her work friends. I was really gutted I missed it, so swore to myself I'd check the website daily from then on for when the deal came up again. Anyway back in January I was sat watching the film Chalet Girl (which is about snowboarding if you haven't seen it) and thought to myself it might be time to just go ahead and book a lesson without the groupon deal as I was desperate to try it. 2012 is my year for trying new things so I decided to finally get off my bum and book it. However, this was about half 11 at night so I just logged onto Groupon on a whim just to check...and the deal was there! I thought this was a little bit of a sign :) Just simply because I'd been waiting for the deal to come back up for so long and then the very night I watch a snowboarding film and decide to book a lesson anyway the deal comes up! I was especially lucky to check the website only half an hour before the deal ran out ha!

Anyway, onto the lesson! Lessons usually cost £29 but with the Groupon deal it only cost £11 - about £15 including the cost to hire out the gear! So cheap! In Milton Keynes which is about a half hour drive from me we have the Xscape which has a massive snowslope inside, as well as other things. So it's the perfect place to learn. I booked two beginner lessons so that my sister could come along with me as well.

So we went in and got all kitted up (my sister cried with laughter for a good 10 minutes when I put on a helmet backwards that was too small for me - she thought I looked like an egg!). The boots are so heavy and tight! And the boards are really heavy too! After that we followed the instructors in - there was a really big group of us so clearly the Groupon deal had proved popular. First of all at the bottom of the slope they showed us how to get on the board properly - strapping our feet in tight and such. Then we got a little moving floor lift thing to the very top of the slope as we were going to be using the top half for our lesson. This moving floor thing was well dodgy, a few times it stopped and we all almost fell over! Once at the top we realized how high it was and then our very hilarious French instructor informed us that for the lesson we'd be learning the basics and going down the slope - backwards!

He explained that we'd have to balance on the board and bend at the knees and relax to be in the correct position. Then whilst going down the slope we had to lean forward to stop the board and lean back to go. He also explained that when going down you cannot look at your feet else you'll fall - you have to look straight ahead of you! I can't remember exactly, so if you're hoping to try snowboarding please don't use my advice in this post about what we were told to do ha! It took me a good 10 minutes to get strapped in then the hard part was getting up. Once sitting on the floor you kind of have to roll onto your front (impossible with the weight of the board!) and push yourself up. When it was my turn for going down I was petrified! I fell loads of course and didn't really get the hang of it my first time going down but the instructor explained to me that my feet weren't strapped in tight enough. As I was leaning forward to slow down/stop the board, nothing was happening because I was just creating a gap between my ankle and the back of the boot - not lifting up the back of the board.

My second time going down was better! I got the hang of it mostly but still fell as whenever I went too fast I got scared ha! He also taught us how to move from side to side and I think I got this perfectly! The last few times were going down the whole slope, not just the top half. When I got to the bottom it turns out the lesson was up and everyone had left except the instructor and my sister as I'd taken so long to get down ha!

It was only an hours lesson covering the very basics but it was really fun! I would suggest everyone try it at least once. I am definitely going to continue lessons (I was given a little card as proof that I'd completed stage one and also giving me 50% off my next lesson!) however I've got to say I don't think that everyone would go on to continue lessons after the first one. It is so, so much harder then you think it is. It's not cold for a start, you get so hot and bothered doing it. You'll also wonder what the point is at some points when you're taking a good 10 minutes to take off your board and put it back on only to fall down a slope 10 times in the space of 2 minutes. However this is expected and obviously as you get better you'll fall less and learn to put your equipment on quicker. It's not at all what I expected but even though it was tough, I think it's something I'd love to keep up and I'd be willing to put the hard work in. As hard as it was, it felt really cool when I finally started to get the hang of it!

Home Remedies to Cure Summer Acne

Summer gives joy and is considered as a happy warmer season in cold Northern countries but in hot countries like India, it is of course a tough task for people to face summer without getting their skin getting damaged. In winter,. we do face some skin issues such as dryness and roughness but summer gives us harsh those UV rays, sweat, rashes, tan, sun burns and several heat bumps especially on the areas around mouth, forehead, neck and back. It is really a big headache treating these acne bumps because they itch and leave marks on our skin. What if this continues every summer? Your skin would be covered up with ugly looking spots everywhere.
Taking care of your skin in summer is a very essential part in your summer skincare routine, to maintain a clearer beautiful skin. Now I am going to share with you all some simple and natural ideas to vanish away those ugly summer acne bumps and also to prevent them leaving dark marks on your beautiful skin!

Natural Home Remedies to Fight Summer Acne & Heat Bumps

  • A bunch of fresh neem leaves should be collected and boiled in half a litre of fresh water. Allow this mixture to boil in simmer stove for about 20 minutes or until the colour changes. Switch off the stove and allow the neem serum to cool down. Filter and apply this neem serum over the summer acne affected places and leave on for 20 minutes. Wash away with cold water and pat dry. Neem acts as a natural medicine to cure heat acne and also helps in preventing bacterial infections.
  • Freeze rose water to make some ice cubes. These ice cubes can be rubbed over the acne to soothe the skin and cure summer acne as fast as possible. Rose water has healing properties which can also give your skin a nice relaxing sensation.
  • Go for raw milk! There is nothing purer than raw milk to treat your skin naturally. Dip a cotton pad in cold raw milk and apply over the affected areas. If done daily, your heat bumps and acne will vanish without any trace. Some might be allergic to milk, they can avoid this and go for the rose water treatment.
  • A very cooling and herbal natural treatment can be done at home to say goodbye to these summer acne bumps in no time. Collect some fresh basil leaves (Tulsi) and make them a paste. Use this basil paste as a face or body pack to cool down the body and eliminate heat bumps. If followed twice in a week, this natural treatment not only cures heat bumps and acne bumps, it also prevent them from leaving dark marks on your skin.
  • Lazy to treat your acne prone skin? Leave your worries. Add a bunch of crushed neem leaves and 2 teaspoons of turmeric powder to a bucket of water everynight night. Bath with this water next morning to see visible results on your skin. Neem and turmeric are two natural ingredients that improves skin and prevents acne and bacterial infections.

Have you suffered from Summer Acne? How do you treat it?

Video Tutorial (Reader Request): Face Contouring

    Manali says...

i would like u to help me out with face contouring...i really love the way u do it...a video tute would be really helpful..
and if possible use lakme absolute moon lit highliter to do the tute
i have my farewell next week...n i plan to do my make-up on my own...also if u can suggest some makeup tips(specially blush,e/s, lippie) for a dark navy blue saree...it would be an early evening function FYI....and yeah i have fair to wheatish complexion with yellow undertone(sorry for this kinda description but i dnt know my NC/NW number)...i can mail u a pick of mine(please let me know)...thanks a lot

Manali did mail her and her saree's pic and I must say that she is gorgeous :)

First off Manali your saree is a beautiful Navy Blue with a lot of golden detailing work right, so I would suggest you to stick with a dark blue and golden combo itself. Plus you say that its an early evening function, hence a smokey look or even a simple dark blue shadow would be quite out of place...

We need to keep the look classy yet pretty, so I would suggest you to for a wash of golden eye shadow on the lid and crease area and a pale golden highlighter on your brow bone. I have used a golden eye shadow that has a tinge of Orange in it... Finish off your eye makeup with a thick navy blue eye liner on your upper lashline and kajal for tightlining plus mascara...

    My recommended look...

Use a bright lipstick, I recommend an Orange based RED. If you are not comfortable with Red, a bright pink lippy would look good too :)

Just Herbs Silksplash Neem-Orange Rehydrant Face Wash Review

After reviewing the Frugel FirmSkin Skin Radiance Gel before a couple of days, Now I am reviewing the Silksplash Neem-Orange Rehydrant Face Wash from Just Herbs. You would not need an introduction for Just herbs I guess, you all would have known about this brand. It is really a nice natural experience to try their products because of their lovely rich packaging and the claims. Let us come to the product now. Don't you feel luxurious of the name Silksplash? That too with Neem-Orange Ingredients? I was really tempted and have been using this face wash for about 2 weeks. Let us now check the product description followed by a detailed review.
Product Description: An ideal rehydrant foaming Ayurvedic cleanser with the natural goodness of neem, Chandan(sandal wood) and honey which gently removes the last traces of dust, grime and make-up residue, yet retaining the inherent moisture of the skin. While Sandal Wood is moisturising and anti-inflammatory, Calendula acts as natural antiseptic and antibacterial agent with sun radiation protective properties. Aloe Vera, Honey and Orange peel deeply moisturize leaving the skin with an amazing sense of freshness and a velvety sheen all day long. Regular use keeps the skin pores unclogged thus keeping blackheads and pimples at bay.

Just Herbs Silksplash Neem-Orange Face Wash

    Price: Rs.245 for 100ml

    Shelf Life: 2 years

    Ingredients
Neem, Orange Peel, Aloe vera, Honey, Calendula Extract,Cucumber Extract, Chandan and Cleansing base.

    My Experience with this Product
This face wash comes in a sturdy transperant bottle which looks amazing with a golden lid and a tiny pamphlet tied on the neck. The product description is written on the phamphet in a lovely way and I loved the idea of their packaging. All their products look so natural and pleasing to the eyes. I have no complaints about the packaging but I wished it be some squeeze type for a better control. This face wash is hygienic to travel and use as it comes in a bottle.

Being honey-sh in colour, this face wash has a runny consistency. I would say this is semi transparent, gel based honey with orange-sh colored face wash. I could really feel the smell of ingredients they mentioned. It delivers a natural smell of orange peels and honey which was so pleasing and refreshing while every wash. I am not sure about how sensitive noses feel as there are no artificial fragrances mixed in this, but the "All Natural" is my go always. To say about the lathering effect, it lathers pretty good. It lathers enough for a perfect wash, neither too less nor too foamy. It's just a myth that only lathering products cleanse well, so get out of it. This face wash is a best example to break that myth.

It cleansed out my skin really well without leaving any slippery feel behind. My skin felt instantly smooth, soft and fresh after using this silksplash face wash. Being a normal to oily skinned person (In summers) this face wash works fine for me. My skin's oil secretion was in control for a long time, on the other hand it doesn't dry out my skin too. It removes all the dirt, grime and light makeup residue easily. A very small amount of face wash is enough for whole face and neck, so a single bottle will last longer. The magical part of this face wash is that, it reduced my acne bumps! Isn't that really great? I was struggling to get rid of my acne for past one week and this does that job. I guess it's all because of the magic of neem and orange. So finally, I am totally in love with this face wash, have no complaints. They do what they claim, but this is not recommended for extremely dry skins in winters as you need to go for some other creamy nourishing one. Just Herbs Silksplash Neem-Orange Face Wash makes a perfect daily refreshing face wash! Your pimples and blackheads won't visit your skin of course.

    PROS
    1. Read the ingredient list! All natural ingredients are present in one form here.
    2. Leaves my skin soft, fresh and smooth after every wash.
    3. Prevents excess oil secretion for a decent time. On the other hand, it doesn't dry out skin too.
    4. It does the cleansing part well by removing dirt, oil and makeup residues.
    5. Spreads smoothly over the skin and gets washed off easily.
    6. I loved the natural fragrance. It's not sweet or fruity, but natural.
    7. Sturdy and travel friendly packaging. Hygienic!
    8. Controls and reduces ACNE! Interesting! A boon to people who suffer from acne often.
    9. A perfect everyday face wash for oily and normal skin types.

    CONS
    1. I wished it to come in some squeeze or pump type for more easier usage.
    2. This is not a con, I am just mentioning. This face wash is not for extremely dry skins in winters and sensitive noses may feel it a bit heavy. But I am sure, after every wash you will love it.

Nothing else! This is just a fabulous natural face wash which is worth every penny!

    Overall Rating: 4.5/5

My Recommendation: This is a must try facial wash for oily and normal skin types. You will love it and stick to it because it is all natural and refreshing!

Will I Repurchase?: Why not? Every time I will. This controls and prevents my acne greatly leaving my skin soft and refreshed.

Himalaya Herbals Hydrating Face Wash Cream Review

Face cleansers take an important place in our daily skincare regimen. Today, I am reviewing the Hydrating Cream Face Wash from Himalaya herbals brand. Previously I reviewed other products and this is the second last one left form Himalaya Herbals in my case. I have been using the fairness face pack too for a long time, the last one and I may be reviewing it some other time. I will be purchasing few more products from Himalaya (Yippee) and you can expect many more reviews from my favorite brand. Now lets move on to the product description and review.
Product Description: A soap free herbal formulation that gently cleanses and moisturizes. Unlike soap, it will not leave your face feeling dry and stretched. Cucumber cools and soothes, and Aloe vera tones and softens your skin. Use regularly for clean, fresh and glowing skin.

    Himalaya Herbals Hydrating Face Wash

Himalaya Herbals Hydrating Face Wash Cream

    Price: Rs.40 for 50 ml; Rs.70 for 100ml

    Shelf life: 2 years approx.

    Ingredient List
Each gm contains: Trapusha (Cucumis sativus) 100mg, Processed in Kumari (Aloe barbadensis), Amalaki (Ambilika officinalis), Karchura (Curcuma zedoaria).
Inactives: Phenoxyethanol, Methylchloroisothiazolinone, Methylisothiazolinone, Sodium Benzoate, Potassium Sorbate.
    Colour: Ponceau SX

    My Experience with this Product
I have been using this face wash cream for almost two months and I have a lot to say about it. It comes in a sturdy tube like every other Himalaya Herbals products come and is quite travel friendly. The packaging itself is simple and cute. Every squeeze is in your control too and hence overall, goodly packed.

Himalaya Herbals Hydrating Face Wash Cream

The consistency is some what in between thick and runny, it has a normal creamy texture. I have no complaints about the consistency part and the cream is milky white in colour too. Isn't that cute? While coming to the fragrance part, its a bit okay-sh to be honest. The fragrance is not super sweet, floral or fruity. It has a kinda herbal with talc mixed smell which might be uncomfortable for sensitive noses. But don't imagine any bad, it is gentle, nothing harsh  or overpowering.

Himalaya Herbals Hydrating Face Wash Cream

When I first used this face wash, I was disappointed because of the lathering part. Gosh! It doesn't lather at all. A big squeeze gives a very little lather but then I realized it is a face wash "Cream". Doesn't it? Why should we run behind the myth that only lathering products cleanse? It is somewhat like a cleansing milk come cream that cleanses skin without leaving it dry. My skin felt instantly clean, smooth and I would say that it is perfect for everyday wash. Normal to dry and dry skinned people will love it as it doesn't stretch skin by striping off excess moisture. About removing makeup, I am not sure. You may need to go for some other to cleanse heavy makeup. I have no complaints about this face wash as it does almost what it claims. It cleanses well, softens and doesn't dry out skin. Give a try for sure, it comes in a dirt cheap price too!

    PROS
    1. Leaves skin smooth, soft and clean.
    2. Doesn't dry out skin. Retains moisture but not to the extent of skipping your moisturizer.
    3. Perfect every day face wash for normal and dry skin types.
    4. Comes in a dirt cheap price. Easy available too.
    5. Milk like creamy consistency spreads smoothly over face and gets washed off easily.
    6. No side effects such as breakouts and such.
    7. Travel friendly.
    8. Contains natural ingredients like Aloe and cucumber.

    CONS
    1. If you are looking for a lathering face wash, then this wont be your pick. Remember, this cannot be taken as a con because this is a face wash "Cream" (They clearly stated)
    2. Contain parabens. Every other product do so, nowadays.
    3. The fragrance can be improved.

    Overall Rating: 4.5/5

My Recommendation: I highly recommend this face wash cream to dry and normal to dry skin types. It cleanses and softens well even without lathering. Comes in an affordable price too, so give a try!

Will I Repurchase?: Of course I will. Being an oily skinned person, I somehow love this too, because of the softening effect.

LOTD: For the love of winged liners...

The rate at which I am posting winged eye liner looks is quite alarming cause I stand a chance of becoming a drag and well simply over-doing it. From where I caught the bug I don't know but it sure seems to be persistent and is now deep inside of me, refusing to get out. I sound as if I am talking about a virus but ladies seriously, the winged liner trend is going almost VIRAL. If you know what I mean :P

This time I did a winged liner with my Indigo blue Inglot Liner (shade 83)... And I am quite liking the result...

The confusion is if it looks better with a clear gloss or with the Pink lippy :) You comments and feedback is more than welcome :)

No Jeans Policy - Week Five

Wow hasn't the weather been gorgeous?! I've been getting my pasty white legs out this week in the hope of getting a head start on my tan for Egypt next month. This beautiful weather also reminded me that before Christmas, when I was yet again convinced my wardrobe would collapse, I sorted out loads of clothes and shoved loads of summer clothes up in the attic. Although I still want some more skirts, I found a few I forgotten I had! Hopefully for the remainder of my 'No Jeans Policy' (and hopefully afterwards!), I can stop wearing not just jeans but jeggings too and wear more skirts!
