2011 Conclusion Challenge - Day Two

Day 1: What has been your most memorable moment in 2011?
Day Two: How much have you changed overall in 2011?

Not much at all! A lot as changed in my life in general, such as graduating from uni, moving down south, my martial status changing but I don't think it has changed me much as a person. I feel proud of myself for graduating and definitely more determined to make sure I get a career in journalism. The biggest personal change would have to be my outlook on love - as depressing or as corny as that sounds! I had a rough time breaking up with/getting over my ex and in the past I've always been a hopeless romantic, staying in relationships even when I should leave but I think that has changed. I think now I'm choosing to think more with my head and the idea of meeting the one doesn't really sit in my beliefs anymore. I've become a bit of a scrooge! Haha!

Day 3: A person who has impacted your life in some way this year.
Day 4: Something you’ve learned this year.
Day 5: Describe an adventure you had this year.
Day 6:  Any words of wisdom/advice for anyone?
Day 7: 10 things you want to say 10 people.
Day 8: Things you hope for in 2012.
Day 9: What are you looking forward to in 2012?
Day 10: Anything you wish to say to end 2011/start 2012.

REVIEW & LOTD: Lakme Absolute Matte Lipstick in Classic Rose

With everyone google searching for Lakme Absolute product reviews, it becomes really critical for us beauty bloggers who have indulged ourselves and gotten ourselves some products from this much acclaimed range of cosmetics and for those beauty bloggers who have been fortunate enough to have received samples of this range from the company PRs to post reviews and help the beauty blogging brethren :) So here I am doing my bit...
It all started when I had promised myself that I was not going to purchase anything from Lakme as I did not find their product quality up to the mark. Before the Absolute range, I owned only their fantasy range bronzer. So anyways, with their listicks ranging from nudes to mostly browns, I was always put off by the "mature" lip colors that they had to offer. But when they came up with their Absolute range, I couldn't but help myself from plunging into a mini haul and I must say that my apprehensions have been put to rest and I can easily claim that I am truly in deep admiration of the range.
Let me warn you guys that the products from this range havn't really hit the stores full throttle, rather they are trickling in, in twos and threes. For example at Pune Central's Lakme counter, I couldn't find the finishing powders and foundations. And neither could I find the nail paints... I could go through only two shades of baked blushes i.e. Night Sheen and Day Sheer. The SAs said that the shade called Night Sparkle was yet to come. So I got myself stuff from whatever was available :)
Those who have been reading my blog since some time now would know that I have a penchant for matte lipsticks and though I have petite lips (yes I prefer saying petite that thin!), I still use and flaunt these matte lippies with penache :) So when I saw these matte lippies at the counter, I knew I had to have one :) I got one in "Classic Rose" and well the name doesn't really connect to the shade. When I heard the name, I expected it to be in the pink/crimson family, but this shade a pure Red with Orange undertones... But well who cares as long as the lipstick performs well :P Right? Right?

Powder Perfection!

If you're a regular viewer of my videos on YouTube you will know that one of my all time favourite face powders is MAC Mineralized Skinfinish Natural. I love the smooth, velvety texture it has and it keeps me from looking oily most of the day. That's the key word though, "most" of the day! I have now found a powder that I love even more and that actually banishes the shine for much longer, as well as giving you a number of other benefits. Let me introduce you all to Corn Silk powder. Lets get old school...

Corn Silk powders have been used by women all over the world from the late 1960's, and it is no secret that this vintage beauty buy is coming back with a bang! Aimee Adams, makeup artist to the stars including Fearne Cotton, Pixie Lott, Elle Macpherson and Ellie Goulding, has recently been working alongside the girls from The X Factor. She said:

"I recommend Corn Silk for getting make-up to stay in place and give you a flawless complexion, it is incredible and the only face powder I use on my famous faces!"

Corn Silk contains a natural walnut shell formula which helps to keep your make-up in place and comes in a matt or satin finish. The company actually states that this can be applied as a base for your make up as well as over your foundation to set in place. Not sure if I would personally use it underneath my foundation as I like to use a liquid and would be scared of the two mixing a little strangely! Perhaps under a powder foundation though if that's your thing?

Anyway, this product is deffinately a secret weapon for us girlies not wanting to look hot and sweaty after a dance at the Christmas party! Or, simply for those of us who struggle to get through the day without all our make up doing a vanishing act. The pressed powder comes in a handy little compact with a mirror so is a great one for carrying around through the day or throwing in the makeup bag. I personally prefer pressed powders over loose ones anyway, they are so much easier to sweep over the skin when you're on the go!

The way it works is rather genius, just below the surface of your skin there are glands which release an oily substance called 'sebum'. The amount released through the pores is dependent on your sensitivity to blood levels of hormones. It’s extremely common but difficult to manage and can get annoying for those of us wanting to banish the shiny t-zones!

Corn Silk is an ultra light, mineral enriched powder that soaks up the excess surface oil and leaves skin feeling smooth and silky. It's not a cakey powder and doesn't offer much coverage, making it easy for layering over other products with looking like a mask! You probably already knew this about me but I aren't 100% keen on a fully matt face. I have the satin finish powder (also comes in a matt formula) but still like to spray a little of MAC's Fix + over to give me a glow! This didn't affect the staying power for me.

The vintage compact is bang on trend with the current 60’s revival look and Corn Silk is available from Boots and leading pharmacies, for around £8.00. Much cheaper than my previous powder love from MAC. Please let me know if you give this a go. It has deffinately helped with my oily t-zone and I just love that added few hours of staying power my makeup now has!

This powder claims to be completely translucent, however I find that it does have a very slight beige hue to it. For those with extremely pale, porcelain skin or beautifully rich, dark skin tones, I would suggest using a lighter hand. My only other negative about this product is it's smell. It is a vintage beauty secret and that deffinately comes across in its scent. Ever had a whiff of your grandma's powdery, floral perfume? Yep, that kinda smell. Granny chic. Nothing revolting and certainly nothing that would put me off using it but it is fairly strong in the pan if that would bother you. Doesn't seem to transfer on to the skin though. Phew!

Hair Tutorial: Glamorous Up Do

The latest video on my YouTube channel features me showing you how to get this lovely up do for the festive season! It's very easy to create, (even for hair novices!) yet still looks affective. I hope you enjoy the tutorial! Here's some photo's of the look...

The look consists of a side swept fringe and two curved under, poofy sections at the back (yes, that is a technical term). Hopefully the photo's do it justice. It really does look as if you've spent ages on this look and in reality doesn't take long at all! Here is the video:

Let me know if you like the look, I would love to see any photo's if you get chance to recreate it for yourself! What's your favourite hairstyle for Christmas time?

Home Remedies for Strong and Shiny Nails

Like our skin, our nails also need extra nourishment in winter to get rid of chipping and breaking. Our nails break in winter due to extra moisture loss. To prevent this we at least need to moisturize them twice a day. How long your nails may be, they aren't really beautiful if they're dry and chipped. Note down the following natural and simple beauty tips for your nails and protect their beauty in this winter!

PETROLEUM JELLY (VASELINE)
Vaseline not only moisturizes your skin and lips, it can also be used to protect your nails from excess moisture loss in winter. Just take a bit of Vaseline, apply it over your nails and massage them for a minute to see an instant healthy shine :) This make take just a minute but the results are great and makes you a nail beauty! Do this twice a day, once after bath and the other before going to bed at night. This procedure gradually strengthens your nails and make them look fuller with a beautiful shine.

MILK
Milk is a natural ingredient which can act as a good cleanser and also a good nourishing tonic. Prepare a nail soak with milk to cleanse dirt from your nails and strengthen them. Take a small bowl and fill it with milk, soak your nails for 10 to 15 minutes and wash off with clean and cold water. A main thing I want to remind you all is that moisturize your nails with Vaseline or any baby oil soon after you work in water. It will prevent nails from weakening and cracking.
I have a little suggestion for you all! :) I always use Himalaya Lip Balm as a nourishing nail balm too. I also apply it over my nails and massage it. It gives an instant shine and also helps my nail grow long and beautiful without any cracks. Do this after every bath and every night before going to bed for best results.

GlossyBox Review: November 2011

It's GlossyBox time! Here's November's box:

What's inside...

I actually really love this months box! It doesn't have anything inside that I personally would cast aside. It features one full size product (The Nail Rock nail wraps) and 4 samples.

What GlossyBox say:

1. Arbonne Ultra Hydrating Hand Creme - Soothing creme moisturises hands, leaving a healthy appearance and skin feeling smooth and refreshed. Full size £19.00 / 118ml
2. Dead Sea Spa Magik Delicate Boosting Mask - A creamy mask containing pure Dead Sea Mud in a gentle formulation, showing immediate and remarkable results. Full size £8.80
3. Illamasqua Freak Eau De Parfum - Celebrate the night with Freak, the dangerously exotic first frangrance from cult British beauty brand, Illamasqua. Full size £59.00 / 75ml
4. Nail Rock Designer Nail Wraps - The new Nail Rock designer nail wrap range is designed to last up to 7 days on nails and 8 weeks on the toes. They won't chip or stain the nail, require no drying time and deliver on trend style in just 15 minutes. Full size £6.65 / Pack
5. Philip Kingsley Elasticizer - Intensive, super moisturising pre-shampoo treatment for all hair types. Adds elasticity, manageability, bounce and shine. Full size £52.10 / 500ml

The hand cream smells very fresh and clean, with lots of citrus notes. It soaks in fast and didn't leave an oily residue on my hands. Thumbs up! Great size to throw in to the handbag for regular top ups!

On to the perfume. I love it! Yum, yum, yum! I have heard a lot of people saying it is quite a controversial scent, you are either going to love it or hate it. Fortunately for me I really do like it and have even popped it on my Christmas list! For now I am being very sparing with my tiny sample until Santa arrives. It is deffinately an evening perfume as it's heavy, mature and sexy. Oh, and it lingers on the skin for ages! Perfect.

I haven't used the face mask yet but have heard great things about Dead Sea mud masks in general so will let you know my thoughts once I've used it. I am hopeful for this one. Finger crossed it lives up to the hype! Not a bad price too if I become hooked and want the full size!

I am actually going to try out the Philip Kingsly Elasticizer tonight so look out for a blog post with a review. I have heard so many rave review on this product so can't wait to see what all the fuss is about! Once again, will let you know my thoughts. Only thing to report right now was that there was no real smell when I had a whiff from the tube...maybe a downside, I do love a strong smelling (pleasant) hair treatment!

Again with the Nail Rock nail wraps, I haven't used them yet but will however show you them once on! I am very familiar with the brand though so was please to see them in the GlossyBox. I have used these before so was thrilled to have another pattern to play around with. Granted, not the design I would have personally chose but will give them a whirl anyway.

I hope you like this months GlossyBox review! Let me know what your favourite products this month were.

Himalaya Herbals Purifying Neem Face Wash Review

Himalaya Herbals Purifying Neem Face Wash Review

Hello Everyone!

We all know that neem is an excellent natural remedy for pimples and blemishes. I have been using neem to cure my acne for ages and it gives me out great results every time. Unlike the other acne clearing products and chemicals, neem cures pimple and acne breakouts like a magic, in a very natural way. I used to gather some neem leaves and paste them to use as a DIY acne clearing face pack before I was introduced to ready made packs. Last month, I saw a television ad about this Purifying Neem Face Wash from Himalaya Herbals which claims to prevents pimples. Hence I quickly picked this as I wanted to try this face wash due to the neem and turmeric ingredients which are very natural and skin friendly. Another reason why I wanted to try this is that I get cold If I paste neem leaves and use as my face pack in this winter as neem has cooling properties. Let me share my detailed review on Himalaya Herbals neem face wash now.
 Himalaya Neem Face Wash Price

Product Description:
  • Soap-free herbal formula gently removes impurities and prevents pimples
  • Contains neem, which has antibacterial properties helps in controlling acne and pimples.
  • Turmeric effectively eliminates acne-causing bacteria.

Key Ingredients:
  • (Neem, Nimba) well known for its anti-bacterial property that kills problem causing bacteria.
  • (Turmeric, Haridra), Effectively controls acne and pimples.

Usage Directions:

Moisten face, apply required quantity of Purifying Neem Face Wash and gently work up lather with circular motion. Wash off with clean water and pat dry. Use twice daily.

Price and Quantity:
Available in 15ml, 75ml and 200ml packs but I picked the 15ml trial pack to try it :) It costs only Rs.15

My Experience with Himalaya Herbals Purifying Neem Face Wash

Packaging: The face wash comes is packed in a  transparent tube with a small green screw cap. The bigger packs come with a flip type one which is a bit flimsy :( Once I travelled with this and ended up in getting face wash all over my hand bag.

Colour, Consistency and Fragrance: It has a gel like translucent consistency which is light green in color and has a light herbal smell. The fragrance is not sweet or fruity but I loved the mild natural herbal smell which doesn't bother me at all.

How it works: I started using this face wash 2 weeks back and since then, I did not experience any acne breakouts at all. It really vanished my pimples up to a great extent and prevented them from coming back. This face wash definitely doesn't produce rich creamy lather, but a small quantity was enough to wash my face and neck. My normal-oily skin did not feel any stretchy or tight after washing my face. It made my skin instantly clean, clear and soft without stripping the natural moisture. Even though it doesn't dry out my normal-oily skin, I won't recommend this face wash for dry skinned people. This will suit the ones who have normal, oily and acne prone skin in all the seasons well. Overall, I love this face wash for the price, the neem ingredients and the results it give out :) I recommended this face wash to my mom and she loves it too.

Pros of Himalaya Herbals Purifying Neem Face Wash

  • Affordable, worth buying and easily available everywhere.
  • This face wash comes in a transparent tube, so that it would be easy to find out how much is left in the tube.
Even though the smell is not sweet, it has a natural herbal flavor which made me feel like I am not using any harsh chemical over my skin :
  • Prevents pimples and cures acne breakouts within few days of usage.
  • No side effects; save to use even on sensitive skin types
It doesn't dry out my normal-oily skin at all.
  • It faded out the acne scars and also cleared my blackheads to an extent with regular use.

Cons of Himalaya Herbals Purifying Neem Face Wash

  • The flip cap is flimsy and thus the product is not travel friendly
  • I have read different reviews on this face wash. It works for some and doesn't work for others.
  • Not for the dry skinned beauties out there

Makeup and Beauty Home Rating: 4/5

Recommendation: Using neem for pimples has been in practice since ages among Indian women. This face wash which contains neem really helped in clearing out my pimples up to a good extent and hence, I highly recommend this product.

Would I Repurchase Himalaya Herbals Purifying Neem Face Wash?: Why not? I will :)

Vaseline Healthy White Skin Lightening Body Milk Review

Hi girls and guys! Hope you are doing great. Today I am going to review one of the Vaseline's product Vaseline Healthy White Skin Lightening Body Milk :) I have started using this product long back but just now got time to write a review. I bought this product when this winter started to keep my skin nourished because winter takes away all the moisture from my skin and makes it dry and dull. SHELF LIFE : Best Before 24 months from Packaging.

CONSISTENCY and How it looks:

MY VIEW ABOUT THIS PRODUCT
Actually I bought this product to protect my skin from this dry winter. The pack comes in a classy and cute skin colored plastic bottle. The body milk is creamy and pure white in color. I love the product's pleasant smell and flavor from the very first time when I applied it on my skin. It has a thin consistency, which spreads easily and quickly without forming any whitish artificial shade over my skin.
I bought this body milk to keep my skin nourished in this winter, and it did what I expected even though I didn't see any quick lightening effects on my skin after usage. The lotion removes tan to an extent and protects skin from UV rays as it has sunscreens. Even though it is a very good product, I feel this body lotion will not suit dry skins as it doesn't contains much moisturizing properties needed for extremely dry skins. I love this product and this became my all time favorite body mil, I planned to use this in summers too :) It's skin friendly as it nourishes well without any oiliness. Suits well for normal and oily skinned people.

BEFORE APPLYING THE BODY MILK

AFTER APPLYING THE BODY MILK

PROS
  • Affordable and worthy for this cheap price.
  • Protects skin from dryness without making it oily and hence it acts as a good all time body lotion.
  • It has sunscreens which protects your skin from harmful UV rays.
  • The product removed my suntan to an extent and made my complexion even.
  • Smells really pleasant :D I love it.
  • It has a thin consistency which spreads easily without any sticky feel or white artificial shade.
  • Within a month of usage, It removed suntan to an extent and made my skin soft and smooth.
  • No side effects as it is so gentle and pure as milk.

CONS
  • It would not suit dry skins in winter.
  • If you expect for fast whitening results, then this is not the product for you. It only removes tan and keeps skin fresh and nourished. The whitening effect may take more days of usage.
No more cons. It's a lovely product from one of the good brand VASELINE and it's very affordable too, So I don't want to list out any cons for this reasonable price :)

My Rating : 4.5/5

Enjoy this winter with pleasant smelling and nourishing VASELINE HEALTHY WHITE SKIN LIGHTENING BODY MILK!! :)
